This wine has seen several name changes (from Il Toro to RomiTòro and now Romitorio). The Castello Romitorio 2021 Romitorio is a hearty, full-bodied red blend with the muscle and power to mimic the beautiful Sandro Chia drawing of a raging bull on the front label. Fundamentally, this wine shows an all-Maremma spirit with rich concentration, big fruit weight and a whole range of savory and black fruit aromas. This wine is a delight to drink; it has a soft texture and is just raring to go straight out of the gate. This is one of Italy's ultimate value wines.

A fresh and crunchy red with dark cherries, currants, crushed flowers and a little bit of chocolate. Medium- to full-bodied. So lively and bright with textured, chalky tannins. Attractive juiciness with cherries and red spice undertones. Mineral and savory with some salinity at the end.

Falstaff

Dark ruby red. On the nose there are fruity notes of plum, blackberry, violets and light spices. The palate has a great texture, is fresh and juicy, very drinkable, slightly loose knit on the finish.

Here's a new submission from Montepeloso in Suvereto, Tuscany, that is designated as a "vino rosso" (or without an appellation). The 2021 Alpha reveals a rich and saturated personality with medium-rich fruit weight. The wine is a blend of 65% Sangiovese, 20% Malvasia Nera and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, although it is hard to make out any one grape. I suppose you do recognize the freshness that comes from the Sangiovese and the structure of the Cabernet Sauvignon. There is plenty of tart fruit, with those two traits—the acidity and the tannins—that give this young wine the qualifications to pair with a hearty pasta or grilled meats. Production is 30,000 bottles.

A rich and firm red with dark berry and dark earth aromas and flavors. Medium-to full-bodied with solid tannins and a flavorful finish.

The 2021 Alpha is a new wine from Montepeloso. It offers up sweet dark plum fruit, graphite, menthol and licorice, all framed by bruising tannins that need a bit of time to soften, although I imagine most bottles will be long gone before that happens. Alpha is a blend of young vines and some purchased fruit.

The aromas of blue fruits such as raspberries and blueberries are so prevalent. Licorice. Crushed stone. Violets. Full-bodied. So classy with ultra-fine tannins that go on forever. Lovely depth of cool and focused fruit. A vivid and thoughtful wine with power and finesse. Classic in the making.

Linear and tight with blueberry, raspberry and some citrus character. Medium body, tight tannins and a refined, polished finish. From organically grown grapes.

Rich garnet. Currently still somewhat restrained on the nose, smells of ripe wild berries and red beet. On the palate balanced and gripping with a generous spicy progression, tightly woven tannins give support, with full drive, remains long.
